Before changing your major to a science discipline, you may want to talk to an advisor about the different majors available.
How to Change Your Major
New students desiring to declare a major
During the college portion of orientation, new students are asked to officially
declare their major by completing the Declaration of Major form.
Continuing students with a major in the College of Arts and Sciences
To change to a different major within the College, a student must complete
a Change of Major form. This form is available in BEH 201 (College of Arts
and Sciences Graduate and Undergraduate Studies). Staff will evaluate the
student's academic history based on the new major and the curriculum code
is updated.
Continuing students with a major outside the College of Arts and Sciences
To change the major from a major outside the College to a major in the College,
the student should go to their previous college or to the undecided area
(SVC 2011) for a Change of Curriculum Code form and the file. The form and
file should be taken to BEH 201, College of Arts and Sciences Graduate and
Undergraduate Studies, for processing. To complete the process, the student
will be required to complete a Declaration of Major form. After receipt of
both forms, the processor will change the student's major code and evaluate
his/her academic record. A copy of the SASS report will be mailed to the
student.
How to Declare a Double Major or Add a Second Major
Continuing students with a major in the College of Arts and Sciences
Students interested in pursuing two majors (adding a second major) within the
College should check the appropriate box on the Change of Major form. The
form is available in BEH 201 (College of Arts and Sciences Graduate and Undergraduate
Studies). The student's record will be evaluated to reflect an accurate assessment
for both majors. When the student views his/her records, it will reflect
their original major choice.
Continuing students with a major outside the College of Arts and Sciences
Students interested in pursing a major within the College and a major outside
the College should complete an Undergraduate College/Major Changes, Double
Major form. This form is available in BEH 201. The form must first be signed
by the college of the student's major, then taken to the college of the second
major. The new college will process the form. The major code should reflect
a code reflecting both colleges. Example: DFA is double major in fine arts
and arts and sciences.
Students should be aware that with two majors they may elect to receive one diploma in pursuing a double major or two diplomas (a second degree). For a second degree students must complete an additional 30 hours beyond the 120 required for the first degree. For more information on second degree and double majors, see your advisor after reading the information in the USF catalog .
How to Change to A Major Outside of the College of Arts and Sciences
Students desiring to change from the College of Arts and Sciences to another College should complete a Change of Major form in BEH 201 (Graduate and Undergraduate Studies). If the College has a folder on the student, he/she will be given the folder and the signed Change of Major form to take to the new College. The new college is responsible for updating the student's major code.
