Common Course Requirements

Most schools for the health professions require certain prerequisite classes. These are listed below. For more information on the specific requirements for the profession you are interested in, please visit our Health Professions page.

Common Course Requirements for Pre-Dentistry, Medicine (Allopathic, Osteopathic, Chiropractic), Optometry, Podiatry, Veterinary

  7. CHM 2211, 2211L (Org. Chem. II & Lab) 5___
  8. PHY 2053, 2053L (Gen. Physics I without Calculus) 4___
    OR

Some professional schools require specific Mathematics courses. Some schools require specific courses and hours in Humanities or Social Sciences. Consult individual schools for information on requirements.

Although most professional schools will accept AP credit in lieu of these courses, not all will. Contact the medical school(s) you are interested in to find out if they will accept AP credits. (NB: At this time, the medical schools in Florida all will accept AP credits, although they prefer to see grades for each of these required courses).
