and Professor of Psychology

Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences Office of Research & Scholarship

It is truly a pleasure to work with such talented colleagues and scholars.  Our College has faculty and students engaged in research endeavors that cross disciplines as well as continents.

At CAS, we are proud of our cutting edge Research Centers such as:

CMD5 – Visit the Center for Molecular Diversity in Drug Design, Discovery and Delivery.
SMMARTT – Learn about Smart Metal-organic Materials Advanced Research and Technology Transfer.
FCoE BITT – Visit the Florida Center of Excellence for Biomolecular Identification of Targeted Therapeutics

Below are just a few examples of CAS faculty accomplishing research goals in the global market:

Signature Research Areas embrace an interdisciplinary approach and engage a wide spectrum of science literacy for our students.  Some examples include:

Space and equipment are essential to a growing research campus.

The College recently moved into the Natural and Environmental Sciences Building (NES) and completely renovated the Chemistry Building (CHE). In addition, the State approved the building of a new Interdisciplinary Sciences Building A (ISA) for USF and the College. ISA is currently in the planning stages with a completion date of Spring Semester 2009.
Our College has over 450 faculty members contributing knowledge to such diverse areas including Humanities, Natural and Physical Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as Professional Programs. Each year, our scholars publish hundreds of articles and books in prestigious outlets, and our external research support continues to increase at a rapid rate.

The prestigious awards and residencies are an important measure of excellence for our faculty.  The success rate and ratio for the 2007-08 competitions of 3 of the most prestigious organizations in the humanities:

I am thrilled that our faculty continues to win these prestigious awards.

The annual research funding rate has increased from just over $6 million in 2001 to over $36 million in 2007-08.  I am especially impressed that CAS doubled the number of federally funded awards from 2006-07 to 2007-08!  This funding comes from highly competitive grant agencies undergoing a rigorous review process, and at a time when funding is tight!!

Our goal is to facilitate this research and scholarship, and to encourage continuing advances in the pursuit of excellence, through a variety of programs and initiatives.  Please take a few minutes to look over the website to see if there is something here that might be helpful in advancing your own work.

Great success in your scholarly endeavors,

Cheryl Kirstein
