Designing and Interpreting a Case Study Using an Anthropological Perspective.
Abstract:
This study looks at the design of a case study protocol used as part
of the evaluation of an urban initiative, and at the interpretation of
some of the data gathered using this instrument. The anthropological
approach to evaluation design and data analysis are central in placing
this study in its proper context. Drawing upon Urban Anthropology helps
define and explain the present conditions of the East End (Richmond)
communities. Preliminary results demonstrate that the implementation
of the East End Initiative is presently far from being a community-based
effort. Cooperation and commitment at all organizational levels and an
effective utilization of resources are suggested as areas needing more
attention.
