drivers in a product design and development unit (Bird). 2003.
The purpose of the study was to explore and describe the organizational
structure and culture within a product design and development unit. I
used ethnographic methods including interviews and observation, and
social network analysis to collect data over a three-month period.
Within the unit. separation into functional groups such as designers
and analysis built a sense of division in the organization subsequently
resulting in obstacles to communication and ambiguity. The functional
culture superseded the organizational culture as the main driver of
culture in the unit.
