Ogilvie, Michele. August, 1983. - AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE NEEDS OF WEST INDIAN STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA

Abstract: An investigation into the needs of West Indian students was undertaken to discover what the special needs of West Indian students are at the University of South Florida Tampa campus. The study took place during the Spring semester of 1983 under the auspices of Student Affairs and the Foreign Student Adviser. Key Informants, a Community Forum and a questionnaire were utilized in the study. It was discovered that academic needs are of primary concern to the West Indian students. The need to broaden world views and to gain special types of information shared secondary importance. As a result of these findings the recommendations that there be a special academic foreign student adviser and that the Policy on Foreign Students be implemented along with other specific suggestions are made.
