Pope, Catherine W.(sp?), April 1995 - AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE OF THE ECOLOGY OF A SECTION OF THE ALAFIA RIVER DRAINAGE BASIN

Abstract: This study was undertaken to develop a data base of subsistence resources available in a portion of the Alafia River drainage basin. Of necessity this data base is limited to the last 2,500 years, the length of time the current vegetation associations have had similar spatial distribution. The principal objective of this study has been to provide data on the seasonal availability of these subsistence resources. With this information at hand future archaeological endeavors may be able to determine the subsistence resource exploitation patterns of the Manasota, Weeden Island and Safety Harbor cultures.
